Police in the United States, who were killed in their Kentucky home by a 26-year-old rescue worker, have triggered a new wave of rage in the United States over officials who shoot black civilians.
Since 2012, protests against the slogan “Black Lives Matter” have been breaking out because of the shooting of unarmed African Americans. Many accuse the police of racially biased brutality in the United States.
Breonna Taylor, an EMT, had fallen asleep when the police broke in and shot her eight times on March 13, said Breonna’s lawyer Ben Crump.
Crump went on to say that the officers had the wrong address and entered the apartment in Louisville with a battering ram without warning, looking for a suspect who was already in custody.
Her friend is still being held after the raid and no policeman has been charged with her death, Crump said.
Crump said in a statement that the police agency “has not given any answers to the facts and circumstances of the tragedy and has not been responsible for its senseless killing.”
A lawsuit was filed last month accusing officials of unjustified death, excessive violence, and gross negligence.
Greg Fischer, Mayor of Louisville, said: “My priority is that the truth comes out and that justice follows.”
The fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin by a neighborhood guard in 2012 inspired the Black Lives Matter movement.
