A South Yorkshire resident planned a classic romantic marriage proposal for his girlfriend with balloons, wine, and hundreds of tea lights. Except that he didn’t recognize the fire hazard associated with hundreds of lit candles.
As the South Yorkshire Fire Department said;
“Candles are great, but they can be SO dangerous. So be careful and properly delete them when you’re done. Do not place them near flammable objects such as curtains or leave 100 tea lights unattended. ”
Even though it all went up in flames, the girlfriend gave him points for the feeling. Thank god she said yes.

Well, the South Yorkshire Fire Department finally shared the story on Facebook. You were kind enough to leave out the names and addresses of the people involved.
According to the firefighters there, the situation could have been worse if they hadn’t contained the fire in time. The fire still consumed the whole house, leaving only the skeleton.
It was a good thing that the fire department kept the man with the fiery marriage proposal anonymous. It turns out that not everyone thinks it’s a funny story. There were some harsh comments addressed to the man in question because of the fiery fiasco.
Others thought it was a funny story. Almost everyone agreed that this couple had better invite the South Yorkshire Fire Department to their wedding now.
Let’s hope they don’t do anything crazy for the wedding. If at least they do, the fire brigade will be there to help.
