The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Thursday that the holy month of Ramazan would start on Saturday (tomorrow) because the moon had not been sighted in the country.
“No part of the country received acceptable and Sharia-compliant certificates,” said Mufti Muneebur Rehman, chairman of the committee, after seeing the panel at the Met Office in Karachi to see the moon. “So the first Ramazan will be on Saturday April 25th.“
The crescent moon for the holy month was spotted in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Bahrain, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Indian state of Karnataka. Fasting begins there on Friday (today).
