Releasing details of possible rains during the monsoon this year, the Meteorological Department said the country would receive more than 10 percent rainfall this year. Sindh and Kashmir are likely to receive 20% more rainfall than usual. The release warned that the eastern rivers could be flooded during the monsoon and major cities were also prone to floods. He also pointed out the possibility of flash floods in the hilly areas of Punjab.
In addition, the Meteorological Department has indicated that the rice crop will be good during the monsoon and the cotton crop will be adversely affected.
The meteorological department added that enough water would be available for irrigation and energy during the monsoon. However, this season will also be favorable for locusts.
