According to the Johns Hopkins University tracker, the U.S. recorded 1,021 new coronavirus deaths in 24 hours
This brings the total number of deaths in the country to 108,120, with more than 1.87 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, the Baltimore-based university said.
Approximately 485,000 people have recovered from the virus.
The United States is by far the most affected country by the pandemic, both in terms of the total number of cases and the number of fatalities.

According to researchers from the University of Massachusetts, who combined nine epidemiological models to generate the final tribute, the virus is expected to cause 127,000 deaths in the U.S. by June 27.
Even though the pandemic has shown signs of slowdown in the country since its peak in mid-April, health professionals fear that the ongoing nationwide protests against police brutality and racism will lead to a resurgence in the coming weeks.
