The federal government has started sharing details of gifts received from Prime Minister Imran Khan during his foreign visits.
Earlier this year, the Pakistan Information Commission (PIC), on the request of a citizen, directed the Cabinet Division to share information on its website under Section 5 of the Right to Information Act, 2017.
A PIC document, a copy of which is available with ProPakistani, revealed that the Commission’s repeated demands for disclosure were rejected by the Cabinet Division.
On Monday, the Cabinet Division challenged the directions of the Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) in the Islamabad High Court (IHC). He claimed that the information about foreign gifts was “classified” and that disclosure could harm national interests.
Cabinet division officials said gifts are exchanged between heads of state, and the revelation would spread unwanted propaganda in the media, which could damage relations with other countries.
During Monday’s hearing, the IHC heard preliminary arguments of the petitioner’s counsel and issued notice to the Pakistan Information Commission and the citizen for disclosure. The court adjourned the hearing for two weeks.

کابینہ ڈویژن کے عہدیداروں نے کہا کہ سربراہان مملکت کے درمیان تحائف کا تبادلہ کیا جاتا ہے اور یہ انکشاف میڈیا میں ناپسندیدہ پروپیگنڈا پھیلائے گا جس سے دوسرے ممالک کے ساتھ تعلقات خراب ہو سکتے ہیں۔
پیر کی سماعت کے دوران ، آئی ایچ سی نے درخواست گزار کے وکیل کے ابتدائی دلائل سنے اور انکشاف کے لیے پاکستان انفارمیشن کمیشن اور شہری کو نوٹس جاری کیا۔ عدالت نے سماعت دو ہفتوں کے لیے ملتوی کردی۔
