During a press conference in Karachi, the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, demanded that Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi either withdraw his statement about his provincial party against the center or resign from his post. Bilawal said the Foreign Minister’s testimony was unacceptable. “The minister’s comments are a slap in the face,” he said. “What do you mean that you will demonstrate your political strength in Sindh? Is that the time for it? ” Bilawal regretted that he had proposed that the federal government clear up political differences and work together to fight the pandemic, but in return he received nothing but flakes and top-level verbal abuse against his party and the Chief Minister of Sindh.
The PPP chairman said the federal government wanted to withdraw the 18th amendment on the pretext of the pandemic. “We [the government of Sindh] are victims because the federal government wanted to use the 18th amendment as a basis for negotiations.” Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country, federal ministers have criticized the PPP-led Sindh government for dealing with Covid-19 and blamed the 18th amendment, which guarantees the provinces financial and administrative powers, for the center’s inability to effectively implement these coronavirus measures across the country.
