The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian, called on India during his regular briefing on Monday to take concrete action to maintain peace and tranquility in the border regions after clashes between the soldiers of both countries occurred in the Sikkim border region. Zhao Lijian noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations and that two countries have joined the fight against Covid-19. He added: “In such circumstances, both sides should work together, seriously address the differences, and maintain peace and stability in the border regions to create the conditions for bilateral relations and fight COVID-19 together.” When asked whether China was considering an aggressive approach against India after the Covid 19 pandemic, he said the assumption was unfounded.
He said: “Since the outbreak of Covid-19, China and India have been in close communication and collaboration to prevent and control the challenge.” The international community’s most pressing concern is solidarity and cooperation with Covid-19. He added: “We must not allow politicization and stigmatization to create more differences or confrontations.”
