Taking note of the rise in prices, the Senate Standing Committee on Finance has summoned Shaukat Tareen, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance, Yousuf Khan, Secretary Finance and Raza Baqir, Governor SBP.
The Additional Secretary Finance briefed the committee on the current inflation during a meeting chaired by Senator Talha Mahmood on Thursday.
However, the members of the committee, Senator Saleem Mandviwala, became enraged and reprimanded the Additional Secretary as the committee had in fact summoned the Finance Secretary to explain the reasons for the rising inflation.
At the request of Senator Mandiwala and other members of the committee, Senator Mahmood summoned the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance, Secretary Finance and Governor SBP.
The committee also discussed the issue of linking taxpayers’ bank accounts with the FBR. FBR officials informed the committee that former FBR chairman Shabar Zaidi had linked the taxpayers’ bank accounts to the FBR.
However, the decision has already been overturned because Zaidi also retained the powers of the FBR commissioners, which was illegal under FBR rules.
