The United States has praised the Taliban for providing “serious and professional assistance” in the first withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan since the withdrawal of US troops.
According to AFP, National Security Council spokeswoman Emily Horn called the departure from Kabul to Doha on a chartered Qatar Airways flight the “first positive step” of the new government in Afghanistan.
“The Taliban facilitated the departure of American citizens and legally permanent residents from Hamid Karzai International Airport through chartered flights,” he said in a statement.

On Thursday night, State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a tweet that about 40 Americans or locals had been invited to board the flight, but only 21 were on board.
“Of course we would like to see more flights like this, we have heard public statements, maybe such a time is really coming,” he said the other day.
The United States says more than 100 Americans have been in Afghanistan since President Joe Biden’s 20-year military mission ended in August.
Ned Price said the Americans have ties to Afghanistan and do not have to make a “difficult” decision on whether or not to stay.
“Whether they come back the next day or next year and change their minds, this opportunity will not be missed,” Ned Price added.
In the last two weeks of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, about 3 million people, including most Americans, left the country in 24 hours.
Emily Horn said the United States on Thursday “facilitated” the departure of its citizens from Afghanistan and thanked Qatar for its role in that effort.
“We are working hard to ensure a safe departure and this flight is the result of careful and strict diplomacy and coordination,” he said.
The flight comes two days after Foreign Secretary Anthony Blankenship’s visit to Qatar, a transit point for half of those deported from Afghanistan.
