5 additional technical grants, including the release of Rs 12.1 million in poverty alleviation and social protection, approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC). A statement was released after an ECC meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh’s financial advisor. The ECC approval 5 additional technical grants including Rs. 1.66 billion for the modernization of the telecommunications surveillance of the Defense Department, Rs. 500 million for the construction of a special school, Rs. 10 million for the family of the senior private secretary Raees Anwar Abbasi, Rs. 12, 1 million for poverty reduction and social protection and Rs. 306.6 million for handling the fees of the PM package.
Rs. 3.05 billion were granted to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) as a loan for the metropolis, and the Petroleum Division was instructed to transfer 11.7 billion rupees to the National Bank’s account. The ECC also commissioned the Ministry of National Food Security and Research to monitor the wheat procurement process. The committee is also mandated to ensure the 8.25 million tonne wheat procurement target through the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) and the Food Division. The ECC decided to procure wheat stocks of up to 4.5 million tons for Punjab, 1.4 million tons for Sindh, 0.4 million tons for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and 0.1 million tons for Baluchistan. The statement also says the government has sourced 3.96 million tons of wheat so far.
