Shibli Faraz, special assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting, said during an interview with a private television station that the government is taking steps to ensure the improvement of the journalist community. He said the problems of the media could be resolved through joint efforts by the government and journalists.
The minister called on the media to play a constructive role in improving the country and its people, and noted that previous governments had neglected the formulation of media laws. He added that “the media are not facing these constraints and needs as they have been in the past.”
The previous Sunday, Shibli Faraz had participated in a protest organized by journalists on May 3 on World Press Freedom Day against the arrest of Jang Geo Media Group’s editor-in-chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman by the National Accountability Bureau. The information minister said before the meeting, “Unfortunately, this sacred profession has never received the recognition it deserves.”
Many of the “past colleagues and your colleagues now” participating journalists had been there in different situations and in all situations whether it is an issue that affects Pakistan, the world, Kashmir, public rights or political struggle.

وزیر اعظم کے معاون خصوصی برائے اطلاعات و نشریات شبلی فراز نے ایک نجی ٹیلی ویژن اسٹیشن کو انٹرویو کے دوران کہا کہ حکومت صحافی برادری کی بہتری کو یقینی بنانے کے لئے اقدامات کررہی ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ حکومت اور صحافیوں کی مشترکہ کوششوں سے میڈیا کے مسائل حل ہوسکتے ہیں۔
وزیر نے میڈیا سے مطالبہ کیا کہ وہ ملک اور اس کے عوام کی بہتری کیلئے تعمیری کردار ادا کریں ، اور یہ بھی نوٹ کیا کہ پچھلی حکومتوں نے میڈیا قوانین کی تشکیل کو نظرانداز کیا تھا۔ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ “میڈیا کو ان رکاوٹوں اور ضروریات کا سامنا نہیں ہے جیسا کہ وہ ماضی میں رہا ہے”۔
پچھلے اتوار کو شبلی فراز نے قومی احتساب بیورو کے ذریعہ جنگ جیو میڈیا گروپ کے ایڈیٹر انچیف میر شکیل الرحمٰن کی گرفتاری کے خلاف عالمی یوم آزادی کے دن 3 مئی کو صحافیوں کے ذریعہ منعقدہ احتجاج میں حصہ لیا تھا۔ وزیر اطلاعات نے اجلاس سے قبل کہا ، “بدقسمتی سے ، اس مقدس پیشے کو اس کی پہچان نہیں ملی جس کے وہ مستحق ہیں”۔
