The Karachi University announced to admit the students on open merit policy. This is going to be for the first in the history of the University since its emergence. The Karachi University has taken this step after the 75 % applicants were not able to pass their entry tests according to prescribed criteria.
The University has cancelled the results of the entry test of the Masters Degree level programs in the four departments like criminology, mass communication, commerce and Pakistan Studies. Applicants will now be admitted in these departments on open merit.
The KU has also made other important decisions. The university has set the criteria of entry tests of business school and department of public administration from 50 to 25 marks. For Bachelor programs the KU has reduced the passing marks of seven departments from 50 to 40-45. These departments are departments of applied chemistry and chemical technology, applied physics, education, environmental studies, petroleum technology, special education, and teacher’s education.
The Karachi University KU has also reduced last year’s final percentage in the intermediate examinations for admission to the Bachelors program under Open Merit.
The cut-off percentage for computer science has been reduced from 75% to 72%, from 75% to 62% for international relations, 75% to 65% for public relations, and 77% to 73% for business schools.

یونیورسٹی نے چار شعبے جیسے کریمینالوجی ، ماس کمیونیکیشن ، کامرس اور پاکستان اسٹڈیز میں ماسٹرز ڈگری سطح کے پروگراموں کے انٹری ٹیسٹ کے نتائج کو منسوخ کردیا ہے۔ درخواست دہندگان کو اب ان شعبوں میں اوپن میرٹ پر داخلہ دیا جائے گا۔
کے یو نے دیگر اہم فیصلے بھی کیے ہیں۔ یونیورسٹی نے بزنس اسکول اور محکمہ پبلک ایڈمنسٹریشن کے انٹری ٹیسٹوں کا معیار 50 سے 25 نمبر تک مقرر کیا ہے۔ بیچلر پروگراموں کے لئے کے یو نے سات شعبوں کے پاسنگ مارکس کو 50 سے کم کر کے 40-45 کردیا ہے۔ یہ شعبے اپلائڈ کیمسٹری اور کیمیائی ٹیکنالوجی ، اپلائڈ فزکس ، ایجوکیشن ، ماحولیاتی علوم ، پیٹرولیم ٹیکنالوجی ، سپیشل ایجوکیشن ، اور ٹیچرز ایجوکیشن کے ڈیپارٹمنٹس ہیں۔
کراچی یونیورسٹی نے اوپن میرٹ کے تحت بیچلرز پروگرام میں داخلے کے لئے انٹرمیڈیٹ امتحانات میں گذشتہ سال کی اہلیت بھی کم کردی ہے۔
کمپیوٹر سائنس کے لئے کٹ آف کو 75 فیصد سے کم کرکے 72 فیصد کردیا گیا ہے ، انٹرنیشنل ریلیشنز کے لئے 75 فیصد سے 62 فیصد ، پبلک ریلیشنز کے لئے 75 فیصد سے 65 فیصد ، اور بزنس سکولوں کے لئے 77 فیصد سے 73 فیصد کر دیا گیا ہے۔
