BAIC is a Chinese automaker that started operating in Pakistan in 2018, after acquiring CZar Engineering Works ‘Greenfield Status’ under the Auto Policy 2016-21. Since then, they have showcased with their products the only major event that took place at the PAPS 2020 Expo in Lahore, featuring vehicles such as the D20 hatchback, X25 crossover BJ40 off-road SUV.
The company now plans to launch the D20 hatchback, which will be priced similar to the Cultus, according to BAIC.
The compatible BAIC D20 sedan variant is about to launch. Visually, the car is reminiscent of the Suzuki Liana, with overall body profile and proportions, a high center roof line and a short rear and hood.
Since we have already seen the BAIC D20 at the PAPS Auto Show, we know that the car will be powered by the same 1.3 liter and 1.5 liter engines that produce 100 and 113 horsepower respectively. The 1.3-liter variant will be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission, while the 1.5 will be offered with a choice between a manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of features and amenities, so far we know that this car has driver and passenger airbags, alley rims, daytime running lights, parking sensor, a smart infotainment system, anti-lock braking system (ABS) electronic brakes. Will be with Force Distribution (EBD) technology, ISO fixed child seat anchor, an immobilizer system, electronic throttle and headlight mounting and adjustment.
The car is a complete package which according to the company is comparable to an advanced car in our market, which is estimated at Rs. 1.9 million, which is “Cultus Money”.
The fact that most of the products to be launched in Pakistan through BAIC will, according to automakers, be incredibly reasonable. In view of this fact, this newcomer in the Pakistan automotive market is a big contender for the choice of Honda City, Toyota Yaris and other affordable sedans.
