The French Ministry of Health said in a statement: The total number of coronavirus deaths in hospitals and nursing homes in France is now 24,087.
Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced that the new figures would be released the day after his presentation of France’s strategy to ease the blockade on May 11.
Shops and some schools are reopening, but cafes and restaurants will remain nearby for the time being, while wearing a mask is mandatory for public transportation.
The prime minister stressed that the government had struck a fine line between the need to protect the economy and at the same time ward off the risk of a new wave of coronavirus infections.
“A little bit too careless, and the COVID 19 epidemic starts again. A little too much caution and the whole country is sinking, ”Prime Minister Edouard Philipp told Parliament.
